Base Camp and Island Peak

Internet service has limits so haven't been able to contact the outside world. After Everest base camp we headed to Island Peak. We woke at midnight to begin the climb by 1:00. After 5 hours of steep rock climbing with another hour to go before we reached the glacier, we decided to turn back to the base camp. This trip has been a life-changing experience!

Hello from Lobouche, Nepal! Stayed at a guesthouse with people from many countries who were either trekking to the Everest base camp, or had already done so. We left at 7:00 and had a steady uphill trek arriving at 3:00. I saw the famous Khumbu glacier ice field.

Hello from Dingbouche! 

After landing in  Kathmandu, going through customs, catching the taxi to the hotel, I began to catching the feel of the city and the people.  

We started our trek after an extraordinary helicopter ride to Lukla, where we began the first day of the trek.  

Today was the first day we have been able to view peaks due to the fog from the low cloud cover.  We will begin the 3 day trek to Everest base camp tomorrow morning.
